Sunday's Winning Trades and Picks

Not a bad day yesterday, with the horses coming in well, and the football proving to be successful, if not after a bit of hard work.

Today sees the 2 Welsh teams in action in the Premiership. Cardiff will relish the visit of Man City and will look to contain, I think anything less than a 2 goal win will be seen as disappointing by City fans, and Cardiff squad will look on this game as part of their learning curve. there are some decent handicap prices around on this game if looking for a punt. Swansea travel up the M4 to Spurs in the later game, and a lot of people will be looking to see how Spurs progress with their new look squad.  I fancy a tight game, between 2 decent footballing sides. Both managers tactically aware and some good ball players in both sides. The odds on Swansea seem a bit high, so i may look at a lay of Spurs, with a view to trading out as the game goes on.

A quick word on Bale's transfer fee, for the same money Real Madrid are offering, they could provide over 21,500 bore holes in Africa, more than enough enough to supply one country with clean, fresh water. Some food for thought!!

Elsewhere the Italians get their season underway with a head of steam, one of the tighter games should be Lazio v Udinese, both sides fairly matched, Lazio have a great record on the opening day and hold the upper hand over their opponents on the head to Heads. Udinese though are on a run of 8 consecutive wins in Serie A, and have no trouble scoring against Lazio. One to watch and enjoy I reckon.

A quick word for my local team, Dunfermline Athletic, relegated last season due to a massive points deduction through going into administration, and currently under a transfer ban.  During the summer the club avoided liquidation through a fans buy out with the view of being turned into a community club. Due to the transfer ban they have squad of youngsters who are learning quickly. Yesterday was a great learning experience for them, down 4-2 with 15 minutes to go and fought back to win 4-5. Not good for the heart rate, but one of the joys f following a local club and understanding what it means to the local population who have fought so hard for its existence. I would be surprised to see them win the league, but they'll have a lot of fun trying.

Over in Belgium the F1 season resumes, the qualifying was hit by rain yesterday and showers are forecast again today. Ideally this should sit the Red Bull, but something appears not to be firing at the moment. Red Bull and Mercedes have locked out the front 2 rows, so I'm looking for some value elsewhere, and I believe Alonso and Raikkonen at 3s for a podium finish may be worth looking at, and may be a little £2 on Webber to win.  talk of Michelin coming in next season as the tyre provider is ding the rounds, but I would be surprised, the following season maybe.  too much testing and development has gone on by Pirelli and it would cost Bernie a fortune to swap providers this late in the season.

Anyway whichever way you go today, good luck.

Saturday's bets and trades

A quick note today. Formula 1 is back on the cards but again the controversy around tyres continue, with several failures in practise.  May have a look at a little EW on Raikkonen, a god performance from him would not do his chances of a big move next season any harm.

Just watched the All Blacks again walk over the Aussies, definitely not a good time to be an Oz supporter, is there anything anything they are good at in this moment?

On the footy front it looks like the transfer market is hotting up, with some big money signings going through if you get chance have a look at the Mourinho interview on the BBC where he has a little joke at Spurs expense, it made me smile. looking forward to the Liverpool v Villa game, Villa have started well and may feel a little hard done by at the moment.  In Bentenke they have a natural goal scorer, and Lambert has done well to keep him at Villa Park.   The Belgian national side are one of my outside bets for the next World Cup, if you have a look at their side you will find a young structured side with a lot of very good individuals.

Watch today's horses, the weather is a changing feast today, there is a lunchtime inspection at Redcar, and I wouldn't be surprised to see a few non-runners coming out today.

Sunday's trades & picks

Not a bad yesterday, had to work at one of the trades to settle for a scratch, and one of two surprises in the shorties, but in general the horses done OK.

Watched a couple of game of the football yesterday, and what impressed me was, Liverpool's movement that was game that could have easily finished 4 or 5 nil, Man Utd were fairly clinical, but without being exciting, and as for Arsenal, they definitely need to start looking at spending some f that bank balance.  It was evident that the crowd had expectations and those were not being met.  Wenger is no fool though, so lets see what he pulls out the bag.

The other surprise were the odds on Man Utd, I think they started at 2.24 and soon rose to around 2.4, a long time since they were that big.  I also thought Sunderland were poor, and unless that team can start gelling quickly then they will be going in my book for relegation, along with Di Canio being shown the door.

Fancy Palace to give Spurs a bot of a run for their money today, but can see Chelsea overpowering Hull in the later kick off, so may look at a in play trade later in that game.

Interesting squad for the final test, with several injuries about and the Aussies looking to try and claim some pride it may be worth looking at a couple of quid on the 4s that are available at the moment? Enjoyed also watching the All blacks put on a great shown in the Rugby Union yesterday, next weeks test is under threat at the moment due to earth quake damage in New Zealand, but hopefully they will be able to put a show to lift the spirits of the locals.  But its definitely not a good time to be an Aussie :-)

A day for small stakes again today, so take care.

Saturday's Trades and Picks

We're back up and running.

So just a quiet start from me for the new season. I don't like to get too involved until 5 or 6 games in, gives enough time for form to settle and squads to settle in.  Couple of interesting things flying around the Premiership at the moment, Chelsea chasing Falcao, who only joined Monaco a couple of weeks ago, Ronaldo on his way back to Man Utd, aided and abetted by several large sponsors, Aresnal not only trying to find somebody to buy, but somebody who also wants to join them, Liverpool still looking for their marquee signing, which may help keep spoilt brat Suarez happy.  The big surprise has been how quiet Man City have been under their new manager, he has been going quietly abut his business, Cardiff have been busting their ow records to bolster their squad to try and keep them competitive. Several clubs appear to be on a bank balancing/consolidation route, so interesting times ahead.

I intend to look a bit more in depth later on how i feel new managers, spending etc will affect final positions, so keep an eye for that.

On the racing from, as mentioned before, find it hard to get too bothered about the flat racing s I am yearning for the return of full time jumps.  I am just south of Perth and the weather is rubbish, with the rain coming down heavy, so look out for possible going changes as the day progresses. look out for Hailings Treasure at Chester, and Carlarajah at Newmarket, and Duke of Yorkshire at Ripon, if they get their going.
