Saturday is Here

Ah Saturday comes once again, personally a quiet weekend last week, but making up for it this week. Last week saw a couple of football trades that showed the importance of paying attention and having a exit plan.  if you had played them sensibly all would have resulted in a green,  but there were times where you could have got out for a small red and kept the view of protecting your bank. but make sure you understand what plays are available to you, and their impacts.  A mistake I have seen several times is that people tend to concentrate too much on one market, and forget that other markets are in play and in some instance there is already money riding on them.

Today see the return of the 6 nations and a full league fixture. Wales travel to Italy, where hopefully confidence has returned, same team that beat the French, but Italy shouldn't be a push over. They have lost their captain, but will be looking to restore pride on their own turf.  Hard game ahead , and again the hotshot markets provide an opportunity for me.  England entertain the tricky French, the French have their tales between their legs, and i fully expect them to come out fighting, England have made their intentions to attack clear so the theory says an entertaining game. i think that total match tries may be a bit light on the Spreads, along with a small speculative look at the shirt numbers.

Enjoyed the football in the week, and again the pressure mounts on Arsne Wenger, his team just has no spine.  Chelsea got them selves out of jail, just. The match I really enjoyed was the Liverpool game, I missed the alleged Suarez stamp, but did enjoy his free kicks, and even though Joe fallen scored I am still not as convinced as Rodgers is about him.  looking at today's games there may be some value with Everton, WBA and Inverness, but staying away from the Arsenal game.

I see the weather has had its say again with the horses with the Newcastle meeting called off and tomorrows meet at Fontwell also under threat. Be careful at Chepstow, can be a bit of a specialists courses, and Kempton has decent races on the go as well.  Couple to keep an eye to: Ravens Brook in the 1445 Chepstow,  Chris Pea Green at Kempton 1405.

Sunday's Thoughts and Trades

Horses were a mixed bag yesterday with some going close, and a couple just not up to the mark. Thought Captain Chris was unlucky, a decent jump at the end and he was in with a shout, was tiredness an issue, not sure but not enough to put me off in the future.

The footy done alright with the Italian game showing the purpose of insurance, and the Dutch game giving many options for greening up.

What next for Wenger? Undoubtedly a decent coach, but his teams never seem to have any fight and little passion. The team seems to lack a talisman or a leader. Are they still paying the price for the stadium, therefore that means best players keep getting sold on? But good luck to Blackburn, as they say you need to be innit to winnit. Also well done to Oldham, they must be getting quite reputation on Merseyside, some good gate money for them.

Today sees Liverpool take on Swansea and as I said yesterday they need some steel in the side, they can't rely on Gerard & Suarez. I see Rodgers stating what needs to be done, hopefully he'll make the right call/decision, don't personally like some of the things I'm seeing in this mornings papers regarding players out/in, but he is the manager so trust has got to be shown in him..... The Reds really do need to get a victory under their belts to get the confidence back up & make sure they can get a decent league position.  Chelsea dressing room in the papers again, and unsurprisingly the usual suspects at play disagreeing with the manager. How can a club/team move forward if no respect for the manager?

My local side, Dunfermline,  also seem to be a side in free fall, started the season so well, then the finacial issues started to come out of the woodwork, and wages not getting paid in full. finished this week off with those in charge seemly having no way out, those that want to help out do not have a realistic business plan, and then the team gets beat by its two local rivals, oh to be a Pars fan!!

Ffos Las today is largely a no go for me, I don't think there is enough intelligence about the place yet to make informed decisions. And are trainers just using it as an extension of their training runs? A long way to travel for very little money! Along with an Ok ish card at Market Rasen, lets see if we can find some decent trades.

Tomorrow signals the start to another wonderful week in the life of the working man!! If anybody ever finds the magic formula that involves making your hobby pay for your future life, with very little outlay, Please give me a call.

Saturday's tips & trades

Funny old week in the football, some top class European games, mixed in with their poor relatives in the Europa, along with the lower league sides playing catch up with previously postponed games. Thought Man Utd done not bad, Celtic were found out, and Liverpool really need to see a game out for 90 minutes and find some steel, and Joe Allen is not the answer.

Managed to make a small amount on minor trades but more a watching brief for me, these European games can be too cagey at times with teams changing their tactics and being scarred stiff about conceding goals at home. Last weeks trades were hard work, and shows you need to have your wits about you, and make sure you have an exit plan, don't be afraid about taking a small loss, or scratching a trade all together. FA Cup messes up the fixture list today, so time to look to Europe.

Rugby results done alright, well done Wales, some pride restored. France lacked creativity, but don't be surprised to see a different team turn up at Twickenham.  Lost a couple of quid on Ireland, do think they need to start building with some rugby playing youngsters at the back. And as for that stamp by Healey, another couple of inches either side and he would have been OK, but such are the fine margins in professional sport that he has been classed as a thug and dirty player, not necessary n my view.

The weather looks like its going to ease up a bit so we should see the last of the preps for Cheltenham without much hindrance  Well done this morning to Black Caviar, records keep rolling, back in the UK soon, can't see it personally  Couple of decent races today, but some of the cards do not give themselves over to  decent betting opportunities. Keep a watch for some market support for Bouggler (Hay 4.40) and may be worth a £2 ew at big prices. If Royal Guardsmen (Asc 1.30) has sorted his hurdling out he may go close at a big price  based on his bumper form. Ew shout as well for Classinaglass (Hay 5.10), as shown well but market seems to be supporting proven horses. Anthony Honeyball has 2 running in the 3.05 at Wincanton, interesting to watch, have a sneaky feeling to side with Swincombe Stone, but the fav should be hard to overcome.

Sunday Sermon

Good result yesterday, not just for the Welsh but also rugby. The 6 nations still wide open, and knowing the French mindset who says they won't beat England at Twickenham in 2 weeks? And what the hell was the score with the pitch, I've seen ploughed fields in better shape. Anyway well done Ryan Jones & Leigh Halfpenny. Kept the side moving and the scoreboard ticking over, still not sold on Dan Biggar & can't decide if its lack of confidence or talent.

I've come to the conclusion that Italy were poor rather than Scotland being impressive, but decent result much needed by the Scots. Today's game in Ireland has the potential to be a cracker, if Ireland can recycle the ball quickly they may get their just rewards. Will look at the Irish hotshots on the spreads again, another profitable day from them yesterday.

Couple of shock results in the footy yesterday, not least Mancini's outburst following their defeat. Surely things like criticising players should stay behind closed doors. His team have effectively handed the title to United, and his public comments have surely just sealed it. Remember seeing a interview with Peter Schmiechel were he said when he got cocky he made too many mistakes, 'somebody' had a word he sorted his head & self discipline out and went went forward from there. Joe Hart take note!! Just watching the Barca game, there is a club that seems to have got it right, owned by the fans, great talent, ethos around family, just watching and I've got pangs of jealously wishing i was there.

I see that F1 season is fast approaching again, for what its worth my money will be on Alonso this year, Vettell will be hard to beat but I have a feeling the FIA may be out to handicap the Red Bull team, allowing the other teams to catch up.

Racing very iffy today, with only Exeter going ahead (+ AW if you really want!!) but going is heavy with more rain forecast. Yesterdays footy trade done OK, so a couple more to look at today.

Back in the Saddle

Back from a little break with a view to improving by own discipline. Lets see how we get get on.

2nd game in the 6 Nations with no real stand out teams.  Have concerns about my own side, Wales, and can't help thinking something as gone wrong/tweaked behind the scenes. how can you go from the highs of last season, to the poor results that have followed? Or is it a case that everybody else is catching on to the techniques and tactics used and are now out thinking the Welsh. My interest today will be around the hotshots on the Spread markets, fancy an open game with running rugby the play of the day, fancy the French to come back with a bang on home turf.

Scotland v Italy is to close to call, lot of admiration for the Scottish coaching team, but the Italians come over on the high of last weeks victory, can they build on it and move forward?  One to watch with a quiet pint for me.

Couple of decent races across the water, and maybe some pointers for Cheltenham, a few courses seem to be getting worried about the oncoming weather so take care in the week.

Rumour has it that Rafa could be on his way out of Stamford Bridge if he loses today, seems strange to me, and can't help thinking he has not been given a chance with is own players and proper plan for the season. lot of talk about the power of certain players, personally I'd chuck them in the reserves and put them on the market.  As for my local team, I shake my head in disbelief. The team are playing well on the park, but the financial plight/infighting may be starting to take its toll, not helped by the fans starting to pick sides, big danger of the club imploding!!!
