Golden Picks for Sunday

There is not much I can say that could encapsulate yesterdays achievements by Team GB. Hats off to them, an exhilarating day that showed the creme de la creme. To single out any of the performances would not do justice to all of the winners, years of hard training coming to fruition on the day it mattered. John Inverdale seemed to manage to sum up a lot of what most of us were feeling when he said "Sometimes you love sport and some times you hate sport, but basically, you love it."

The overdosing of sport continues today, with Usain Bolt running tonight in the 100m final, Andy Murray has the chance for revenge on Roger Federer, I forecast some decent trading to be had. Ben Ainslie battles against the odds down in Weymouth to retain his no1 standing. Just before him there may be another gold when the dominate pairing of Percy & Simpson are in action.  Christine Ohuruogu also runs tonight, and we may be i with a shout in the women's triple jump starting at 1930. Other possible medals coming in the Gymnastics at 1540 and the even more cycling starting at 1000, who would bet against another cycling medal? Women s boxing also gets underway, not something I can say I follow, but lets get behind the team.  for something a bit more left field there is some water polo and handball, and women's basketball also on the go today.  Then in case you are bored there is always the cricket....Anybody got any aspirin!!!

Yesterdays was a nice green day,  horses were a bit of a mixed bag, with a particularly disappointing run from Ruwaiyan, giving far to much to do at the end, few words to the jockey from the trainer after that race I reckon. The lays all came in nicely just the backs lets us down. And what about Hamilton last night, once minute nice bright evening, next minute even the ducks are wearing rubber arm bands...

The footy trade done OK with a nice return available before HT, but yet again the ability, sorry lack of ability, of  British footballers in penalty shoot-outs came to the fore. Still I suppose it was a useful pre season work out for a lot of players.
