Saturday's Thoughts & Picks

Well feeling a bit chuffed with myself regarding the golf.  End of day one recovered over half original stake and could have easily greened up, but end of day 2 sees full stake recovery, a nice green and 4 of the top 6 in the market being from my portfolio. Nice. In the mean time I am laying the other 2 not in my portfolio, Woods & Snedeker. Now the cut has been made the fun starts.....  If the weather gets up then I may just take to the hills and watch the rest of the Championship in peace.

Which way is the cricket going to go, England having done themselves no good on day one loosing some very cheap wickets, and then South Africa coming back with a strong day on Friday.  Feeling a draw may be in the offering, backed up with a possible narrow SA win, lets see how Saturday goes.

Sunday sees the German Grand Prix, my personal preference at the moment is edging towards Vettell. Home grand Prix, Red Bull have now had enough time to get over the blown defuser issue, and the team seem to have got to grip with the tyres. On top of hat last weeks winner Mark Webber signed a new contract this week, so the mood in the camp will be very positive. Rain hit the second practise session so no real sighters yet for Sunday, Saturdays qualifying looks to be a lottery with poor weather forecast, which is in contrast to Sunday's race.  McLaren have several new features on the aerodynamic front, but there appears to be concerns on effectiveness, however i see they benefit by some penalties handed out for gearbox changes. It also looks like Lotus are playing on the edge of the rules with a new version of DRS, but it would also seem that questions remain on effectiveness. Hockeneim enjoys its fair share of crashes and poor weather, so Sunday could be interesting and should provide some good trading opportunities, although these may be limited if Vettel picks up pole and runs away at the start of the race.

There's not much to say about the Sky team on the Tour, what was witnessed on Friday was a great example of team work.  The main man was protected, they could have taken it easy but they came together and helped Mark Cavendish pull out a wonderful and powerful stage win.  This team should be a good shout for team of the year, but unfortunately we have the Olympics to deal with, a good cricket squad never mind any of the other hidden gems that will emerge. But Sky may have just recovered some credibility that was lost by another part of the Sky empire.

The footy front seems to have come to life a bit this week. As expected my local team, Dunfermline, were well and truly shafted by the SPL. This morally corrupt organisation are an organisation that are on their death bed, and have lost all respect and have shown their true colours, where money comes before the fans and integrity of the game. New Rangers were confirmed as a 3rd Division team, and some of the odds flying around regarding them being unbeaten or winning then league are plain stupid.  This is a side that looks like it will have at least a 12 month transfer ban, with a squad made p of kids and reserve team players, playing against some tried and tested old heads of the game.  A game at Greyskull (Ibrox) is completely different to a mud bath at East Fife on a Tuesday night.

The shout at the GB v Brazil game had me smiling, "are you England in disguise" I don't think any of my hard earned will be going on GB to win a gold medals this year.  its only July and already the Euro games have started, and they say there is not too much football being played. I don't have enough buttons on my calculator to add up how many games the potential winner could play.  Any idea where RVP will end up? Sir Alex seems pretty miffed that his bid has been made public, now wouldn't it be just like Man City to come in and trump all bids just to pee off the united fans. As for Carroll, in my view I think Rodgers would be silly to let him go. This seems like a guy who wants to prove himself to the whole football community, and will provide Liverpool with a Plan B or C if things are not going to plan. A few pre season games should show the real intent.

Looks like there is some quality racing back on the cards today headed up by the king George at Ascot. the questions all seem to be hanging around Sea Moon and Nathaniel, 2 horses that have taken my fancy as outsiders/EW are the Japenese horse Deep Brilliante, and Masked Marvel, if the going eases up then my interest would be increased.
